Garden rooms are as much about adding practical, usable space as they are about passion, and our latest case study, this stylish den for a sports enthusiast has provided our customer with the perfect space to enjoy his many hobbies.
This garden room in Meopham, Kent is set in a large garden, which gave us some advantages when planning the design as we could be very flexible whilst sticking to regulations. Our sport loving customer, who enjoys all manner of games from darts to golf, had always dreamed of building a ‘boys den’ to use as a base for practising and watching sports of all kinds. Having recently moved into a large new home, it was the perfect opportunity for him to create a bespoke garden den, set amongst the woodland features of his new property.
The lead feature around which the garden room was designed was a pool table, the size of which meant the total garden room size was just under 30m2 for building control regulation. Due to the generous garden space, we were able to build the garden room over 2m from the boundary, so could take the height up to 3m (making it a more suitable space to cater for his active hobbies).
All of our garden rooms come with underfloor heating as standard, however, it is not recommended to install underfloor heating beneath very heavy objects (such as a pool table) so this was removed from our plans. Instead, we installed an air-conditioning unit which both heats and cools to maintain a comfortable temperature within the garden room.
Due to the site being in a woodland area, our usual screwpile foundations were not suitable with the many tree roots in the ground below. Instead, our customer used a groundworks company to lay concrete base and ran water and drainage.
The finished garden room includes a toilet room, installed by the eDEN team, and a fantastic hand-built bar feature, which was installed by another supplier. Along with the pool table there is a dart board and comfy sofas – creating the perfect den away from the house to catch a game on TV, or play a round of pool. Finally, we included a lovely decking terrace to the front of the garden room, ideal for sundowner drinks of an evening.
