Following the build of her tailor-made yoga studio in January 2019, we caught up with our client, Marcia, to find out more about her experience of eDEN, how she found the build process, and how having an eDEN has changed her yoga business. Here’s what she told us…
You must have done lots of research before choosing your garden room supplier. Tell us about your journey and what made you choose eDEN?
I wanted a yoga space for my business and looked into the options of both a studio or a loft conversion. After much consideration I decided that it would be much more practical to run my business from the garden, without clients needing to walk through my house. I did tonnes of research and met with four different garden studio companies for quotes.
When I started looking in to the detail of each quote, what drew me to eDEN was that I was getting so much more within their ‘standard’ finish than any of their competitors offered. For example, wooden flooring rather than laminate, chrome switches and underfloor heating, which were all included in the standard quote, not an added extra.
So, once you had placed you order, tell us a bit about the service you received from the eDEN team.
Rachel was my main point of contact throughout and was fantastic. I received a production schedule before the build started so that I know who was arriving, when, and why they were there, which was really reassuring when strangers are coming into your home.
Jason and Richard were our build team who built the structure itself and they were very nice to have around, professional and polite. Our build was in January, and even though we had snow on the ground, they worked consistently throughout. It was a lovely experience to see their craftmanship and I loved every day seeing a little bit more progress over the two-week build. It made me feel very lucky indeed.
How do you feel about your finished eDEN and were you pleased with your choice?
The finish inside is fantastic; it’s fully plastered and painted which would have been extra, and I’m so pleased we went with someone who included all those touches. Having the underfloor heating is such a nice touch when we spend such a lot of time on the floor during yoga practise, it feels like a real luxury.
I also love my corner window, since this is the way I face to practise yoga, and I have some bamboo outside which is nice to focus on, rather than a plain wall! It also lets in so much light and is a real feature. I would say to anyone considering a garden room, treat it like it’s an extension of your own house, and eDEN have done just that. Any small snags that came up after the build were addressed and corrected immediately, and the finish couldn’t be better.
How has having a yoga studio at home affected your business?
Prior to the studio I was renting a club house at a tennis club. Although it was a large space it was very cold, far from home, and the floor was often grubby, which isn’t what you want when you’re practising yoga! By moving my students to my home space, I have managed to build up the frequency of my classes. I can comfortably fit 6 students in the studio and run two group classes plus private sessions. I am able to work flexibly and hold evening classes with candles which creates a lovely atmosphere; I’m even holding a candle-lit Christmas class and a New Year reset class, so it has allowed me to build my business around me and my clients.
Do you only use the room for yoga or does it have any other uses?
The whole family love the room, and my husband has a rowing machine stored behind the partition area, which he uses every day. We all love the room and treat it as a special space, so no shoes allowed! It is not only so functional but the structure really enhances the look of the garden. The space at the back used to be dark and damp; uninspiring and an unused focal point. The beautiful garden room now adds to the garden, and I love the horizontal cladding. It’s more than I could have dreamed of and I’m really happy with it.
