Creating a second family room in the garden is a fantastic opportunity to design a space for socialising, relaxing and hosting family events. Whether it’s for cosy movie nights, teenager gatherings away from the house, or room for extended family to stay at Christmas, the extra space will always come in useful as your family grows.
Our client in Wimbledon needed a multi-functional garden room which could be enjoyed by all the family, but also double-up as a home office. We discussed the option of including a shower room into this design, and although they decided not to include this in the final plans, we made sure there was space to add one in the future if they decided it was needed. Garden rooms with toilets and shower rooms are a popular request for our team, as they are ideal for accommodating occasional overnight guests.
The 7.5m x 3m garden space we were working in was irregular, so our team designed the garden room with an angle to the right elevation to accommodate the shape of the garden, and maximise the internal size of the garden room.
In anticipation of potential future plans for a shower room, we took the precaution run a soil pipe under the garden room, so installing a shower in the future would be straight-forward. We also needed to run a 63amp power cable, double the standard power cable we usually install, so it could power a shower if necessary. All these precautionary electrics for the shower room were left in-situ behind the plastered and painted walls, so if our customer wants to go-ahead with the installation, only internal pipes will need to be run. For the time being the separate room will be used as a handy store room, and the design was finished with an attractive set of French doors looking out on the garden.
The eDEN team prepared the site before Christmas, clearing away an existing shed and treehouse. As soon as Christmas was over, our first job of the New Year was installing the eco-friendly screw pile foundations, and the build then began mid-Jan, and was complete by the end of the month. Another swift turn-around from the hard-working eDEN team!
