Busy, growing families need plenty of space, and once children start hitting the teenage years, separate social space (with just the right proximity to the house) creates the perfect balanced environment where your family can grow. This couldn’t be more fitting for this particular customer, who explained that this teenage den would likely house their son’s drum kit!
Before the build could begin, eDEN cleared the garden, removing a shed and digging up an existing concrete base which protruded above the ground, causing height issues for the new project. Power lines were also run down to the build site, along with a CAT cable to enable an internet connection from the garden room (absolutely essential when creating a room for teenagers!!).
This large ‘teen den’ internal size stands at 30m2, putting it just under the maximum size to comply with building regulations (avoiding the need for full building regulations). The lovely feature of a large set of triple track slider doors brings a great sense of space and light into the room, and as the doors slide within the unit (not outwards) it avoids the issue of having stacked doors either inside or outside the garden room.
This customer also included an eco-toilet within their design, which is a fantastic low cost, environmentally friendly option, with no smell and no need for running water. With the family likely to spend lots of time in this highly functional new room, a toilet was a must to avoid unnecessary trips up and down the garden.
Finishing touches to the outside of the garden room included a reduced size canopy and stylish uplighters fixed to the timber clad external walls.
