As you can see, the finished product is a high-quality insulated garden room that the family will enjoy for years to come. However, when we started working on the site, we couldn’t have anticipated the challenges that lay hidden beneath the surface.
As with all garden room projects, our process began by clearing the site and getting it ready to install our garden room screw pile foundations. We quickly learned that beneath the old concrete slab lay a rather large 3m wide x 3m deep sinkhole, which had previously been a bomb shelter, which was filled with old gas cannisters and tyres, and was going to pose a bit of a challenge for our team to solve!
Presented with a stressful situation, particularly for our clients who had no idea about their garden’s hidden secret, our team leapt into action and did what they do best…get the job done!
We contracted a specialist groundworks company to clear the rubble and fill the large sinkhole with compacted type 1 sub-base, completing their work by positioning a new replacement slab on the top to create a sturdy and safe foundation for us to continue the project. We coordinated this at no profit to ourselves as the client paid the groundworks direct. All that mattered to us is that we solved a stressful situation and eliminated as much worry as possible from our clients, so we could get on with building their dream garden room!
As you can see from the images below, the end result was a stunning large garden room with integrated store to the right-hand side, and a set of triple bi-fold doors to the left side. The garden room size is 6.6 x 3.8m (including the store) and offers a generous extra living space for the family.
This client opted for a garden room with larchwood cladding, which has a more yellow and slightly knottier finish to the usual cedar that we use, creating a slightly more rustic effect. This is also a good cost-effective option at a lower price point than cedar.
