FAQs

What is the smallest footprint for a garden office?

As a bespoke supplier we can build to any size. Our typical recommended minimum footprint based on practicality and comfort is 3m x 2.5m. This compact room is big enough for a desk and chair, plus a small armchair, and allows for an opening door and our usual amount of insulation on all external walls.

We’re always happy to work with your needs, and that of your space so why not arrange a free, no obligation site visit and let’s get planning.

Do garden offices need planning permission?

As our garden rooms are classed as outbuildings, a home office pod would typically fall under permitted development and therefore shouldn’t require planning permission in most cases.

Please keep in mind that this depends on the dimensions and height you are looking to build, any existing adaptations to your home, and other implications like whether you’re in a flat or a conservation area.

Our team are not planning consultants and it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to check the permissions on the property, but we do offer a planning application service and are always happy to guide you through the process.

What kind of cladding can I have on my garden office?

We use a premium cedar cladding as our standard finish, which is locally milled in Kent.

We are able to clad laterally or horizontally and offer alternative wooden strip sizes to suit your taste, such as a popular narrow board finish.

We do also offer a quality composite cladding in a range of colours to suit your style.

Can I use my garden office year-round?

Absolutely! We wouldn’t have it any other way. Every Eden is fully insulated against the UK’s unpredictable weather. That’s hard polyisocyanurate board included in all floors and walls, plus multifoil in the roof of your garden office room. Both are great for both retaining heat in the winter and also helping to keep your building cooler in the winter.

Every garden office room is fitted with a slim wall mounted panel heater, but this can be upgraded to underfloor heating or air conditioning if required (maybe a wise choice if you’ll be using any large server equipment known to give off a lot of heat).

Finally, with our quality, bespoke glazing, you will be able to enjoy your garden from the comfort of your workspace as it changes throughout the seasons. French doors come as standard, or upgrade your space with bifold doors, integrated blinds or feature windows to create something truly unique and beautifully functional.

Can my garden office have two rooms?

Yes, it can. And what a great idea. We build to suit your needs, so whether that’s an L-Shaped room split in two or more, or a long rectangular space with a private meeting area at the side, it’s completely up to you.

An integrated shed store of any size can also be neatly added onto the side or rear of your garden office room, should you want to keep your workspace free of clutter.

Multi-room garden offices are ideal if you want to do more with your home office than just work. And why not? A garden room is a fantastic way to add living space to your home without a costly extension so it may well be worth maximising your investment and opting for a multi-use home office.

Can my garden office have a toilet?

We regularly fit toilet and shower rooms into our garden offices. It’s a great way to add comfort and reduce interruption to your workday – especially if the weather outside isn’t great.

We can provide a quote to fit our premium standard suite or source something in a style to suit your taste.

Got questions about plumbing and sewage? Our team of experts will be able to advise on what can be achieved in your specific garden during our site visit.

It’s also worth noting that we can fit a quality, modern waterless toilets, which do away with the need for sewage and water connection. Therefore, limiting the amount of necessary digging.

Speak to our team about your home office toilet needs.

Are electric and Wi-Fi connections included in my garden room price?

Yes! We know how important good connectivity and electricity is in a home office. Every garden room comes fitted with everything you need to get to work from day one. Wi-Fi enabled with a dedicated router, we also include three double plug sockets in brushed steel and integrated spotlights, inside and out.

If you need any additional electrics fitted or integrated tech like projector screens, we can help with that too.

How do you heat a garden office?

Most garden offices use electric panel heaters or underfloor heating. With proper insulation, they remain comfortable throughout the year.

How can I create a productive garden office space?

A well-designed layout, natural light, insulation and acoustics all contribute to a productive environment. We design each space around how you work.
