Choosing the right layout for your garden hobby room.

- At its smallest, with just a desk and chair, a peaceful writing or reading room could be as compact as 3m x 2.5m
- Do you want to keep your room big and open plan to maximise the options for internal layout?

- If you need something bigger, be it a carpentry workshop or art studio, we can build to any size, typically up to 30m2 (internal footprint)

- Consider the position of windows for natural light and maximising views
- If overhead light is important, as it may be in an art studio, you may want to consider a roof light. These are only possible in over height rooms due to the structure needed, so planning is likely to be required for this.

Can I have a roof window in my hobby room?
Roof lights are a wonderful way to bring more light into your space and can be useful if your hobby involves art or crafting.
However, roof lights are only possible in over height rooms due to the structure needed, so planning permission is likely to be required for this.
We can supply a quote for including the extra height and a roof light into your garden room. We also offer a planning application service. So, speak to the team about your specific needs.
Can I have heating in my hobby room?
Absolutely! Heating is one of our always-included premium essentials.
You’ll be able to enjoy your passion in comfort all year thanks to a modern Wi-Fi enabled slimline panel heater. Optional upgrades included underfloor heating to free up valuable wall space, or a combi air conditioning and heating system ready for those warmer months.
What’s the smallest size Eden can build?
Our typical minimum footprint based on practicality and comfort is around 3m x 2.5m. This compact room is big enough for a desk and chair and allows for an opening door and our usual amount of insulation on all external walls.

What glazing options can I have in my hobby room?
Our premium essentials include a high-end aluminium framed double glazed window and French doors.
In addition to this you can have pretty much any configuration of glazing you like.

Can Eden include decking and landscaping in my project?
As with every aspect of your garden room, from planning to build to aftercare, we can take care of everything.
We can build bespoke decking in a timber to complement your garden hobby room cladding. We’ll also be able to quote for additional landscaping requirements.

Do I need planning permission for my garden room?
As our buildings are classed as outbuildings, your home hobby pod will likely fall under permitted development and therefore shouldn’t require planning permission in most cases.
This, however, depends on the dimensions and height you are looking to build, any existing adaptations to your home, and other implications like whether you’re in a flat or conservation area.
If you’re looking to add a roof light that will require an over-height garden hobby room (that means anything above 2.5m) you’ll most likely need planning permission.
Our team are not planning consultants and it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to check the permissions on the property, but we do offer a planning application service and are always happy to guide you through the process.
Can my hobby room be sound proofed?
Whether you want to a peaceful haven, or you’ll be the one making the noise, we offer additional sound insulation as one of our many upgrades. We can add a layer of acoustic sound board in the walls and ceiling. We also offer a sound limiting glazing treatment to keep the sound in, or indeed out, of your garden hobby room.
