Why a garden gym room?

Even the most motivated people can struggle to find time to fit in a visit to the gym. But with your very own tailor-made garden gym building at home, you’ll find it hard to resist.

Create the ideal workout space around the way you like to train. From yoga studios and free weights to treadmills, resistance equipment and multifunctional fitness zones, there’s no limit to how your garden gym building can be designed and laid out to support your health and wellbeing goals.

A garden gym featuring various equipment including a stationary bike, free weights, resistance bands, and exercise balls on black mat flooring with mirrors on one wall.

Integrate a music or entertainment system, add air conditioning and bifold doors, or incorporate a garden gym shed for convenient storage of equipment and outdoor essentials. Your outdoor garden gym should have everything you need to enjoy training and stay motivated throughout the seasons, whatever the weather.

A beautiful haven within your garden, a private home gym can enhance your life on so many levels. Consider adding a multi-room layout that combines a peaceful workspace alongside your gym, or perhaps a dedicated area to relax with family and friends.

Why not include built-in decking, allow space for a hot tub, or opt for a garden gym shed that provides practical storage without the need for a separate garden shed?

Your garden gym is yours to enjoy, so why not arrange a free, no-obligation site visit and discover how we can bring your vision to life?

Why an Eden garden gym room?

At Eden, we’ve been handcrafting bespoke garden rooms across the South of England for over 13 years. In that time, we’ve created hundreds of premium, private and personalised garden gyms for happy customers.

Just as every customer is different, every Eden is unique. Designed from scratch, we’ll build to any size and layout to suit your needs, and that of your space. So, however you like to train, we’ll create something beautiful, functional and 100% you.

In a serene garden gym, three people practice yoga indoors on mats, each extending one arm upward and the other toward the ground. The room features wooden flooring, white walls, and large windows overlooking lush greenery.

Whether you want a large, bright and airy dance studio with built-in storage and full-width bifold doors, or a compact weight training space with fully integrated entertainment system and sound insulation, we’ll make sure it’s created to the highest standard and built to last.

Our buildings start with our selection of quality essentials. That’s a premium timber frame, all-weather insulation, aluminium glazing and double French doors, engineered oak flooring, and painted plastered walls, all encased in stunning cedar cladding.

You’ll find we also fit heating, spotlights – inside and out – Wi-Fi router and three double plug sockets to ensure your room is ready to enjoy from day one.

Want anything extra? No problem. We offer a vast selection of upgraded features and finishes to suit your taste and requirements. From over-height ceilings and reinforced floors to air conditioning and bespoke glazing. Whatever your space needs, we can make it happen.

It’s all part of our over-and-above service promise. From our consultative design process and careful onsite construction to our comprehensive aftercare, we’re here to help. Taking care of every last detail until your garden gym is just right.

FAQs

How tall are Eden garden gyms?

As with every Eden, we will build your garden gym to suit your needs. Our standard height room is 2.5m externally but if you need an extra height to enhance your workout, be it a Swedish Ladder or large weights machine, we can accommodate this.

It’s important to consider that for taller rooms you will likely need to seek planning permission, so speak to the team about how we can help take care of your planning application too.

Can I hang equipment from the ceiling of my garden gym?

Yes! Reinforced ceiling joists are a popular optional upgrade for garden gym rooms. These are ideal if you use a hanging boxing bag or the latest TRX system in your workout.

Can my garden gym be sound proofed?

Like a motivational soundtrack with your workout? No problem. We offer additional sound insulation as one of our many upgrades. We can add a layer of acoustic sound board in the walls and ceiling. We also offer a sound limiting glazing treatment to keep the sound in, or indeed out, of your garden gym.

Do I need planning permission to have a gym in my garden?

As our garden rooms are classed as outbuildings, a home gym pod would typically fall under permitted development and therefore shouldn’t require planning permission in most cases.

It’s important to consider that this depends on the dimensions and height you are looking to build, any existing adaptations to your home, and other implications like whether you’re in a flat or conservation area.

If you’re looking for an over-height garden gym room (that means anything above 2.5m) you’ll most likely need planning permission.

Our team are not planning consultants and it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to check the permissions on the property, but we do offer a planning application service and are always happy to guide you through the process.

How close can I build a garden gym to my fence or boundary?

As every garden is different, we would always carry out a site inspection before advising on the exact positioning of your garden room. However, due to our flexible build process, it’s possible that we could build as close as 10-15cm from your boundary line.

Buildings positioned very close to a boundary may need a non-combustible concrete panel (instead of cladding) where the boundaries meet, and our team can discuss this with you during a survey.

I have a tree on the site of my garden gym – can Eden clear this?

Whatever prep work is required in your garden we can guide you every step of the way. Subject to survey, we can advise you on what groundwork is needed, and quote for clearance.

Where specialists such as arborists are required, we can help you make the necessary arrangements.

What foundations do Eden use?

We use a screwpile foundation as standard for all our garden gym rooms. Screwpiles are extremely load-baring whilst minimising the disruption to your garden (so no digging or concrete fill, which is a big benefit for your garden eco system).

In some cases, where concrete is preferred or required (due to the ground quality or very heavy equipment being placed inside the room), we can quote to lay a new concrete base, and can potentially work with an existing base, subject to inspection.

Can I integrate a shed into my garden gym?

Yes, you can! And what a great idea. An integrated shed of any size can be neatly added onto the side or rear of your garden gym room.

Extra storage is ideal if you want to do away with the garden shed and streamline your garden with a single, stylish building. We’ll give your shed its own external door, concealed carefully within the same cladding as the main building. Internal access can be added if direct access is needed from your garden gym to your shed store.

How big should a garden gym be?

This depends on the type of training you plan to do. We design layouts to comfortably accommodate equipment and movement space.

Can I include a shower in a garden gym?

Yes, garden gyms can include shower rooms, subject to plumbing and drainage considerations.
