Choosing the right garden room size and layout for your business.
We build to most shapes and sizes, so here are a few practical things to consider when planning a space from which to run your business at home:
- Consider an L-shaped or multi-room garden building to zone your workspace. Think separate office plus luxury meeting room for hosting clients, workshop with separate design studio, or salon and waiting room. Whatever will suit your business needs
- You might want to add a small kitchenette for teas and coffee, to save popping back into the house while you work or so you can offer refreshments to clients
- Include a toilet room for your comfort and convenience. You’ll need at least 1m x 1m for the additional room
- Include a decked area to create a welcome space to relax outdoors.

Why choose a bespoke garden room for your business?
Whether you’re just starting out or want to bring your existing business closer to home, a beautiful, bespoke garden room could be the ideal solution for you and the future of your company.
You’ll be able to create a unique space designed around your business needs. So, whether that’s an impressive showroom, a comfortable salon, a private PT studio or a discrete counselling space, a garden room offers a premium and professional space to host both clients and colleagues.

Invest in your company while adding value to your home. A garden room is a lot more affordable and less problematic than extending your home. Plus, although there will be higher upfront costs, building a garden room office for your business will work out cheaper than renting a space long-term.
You can add everything you need into a garden room that you’d expect to find in a business rental property. From toilets to kitchenettes and added sound insulation if needed.
With your own garden based company HQ you have the freedom to customise every detail until you have a place to be proud of, all a stone’s throw from your back door.
Let’s arrange a free, no obligation site visit. We’ll be able to talk through your ideas and see how we can help build a beautiful, bespoke garden room for your business.

FAQs
Can I have a toilet included in my garden office?
We regularly fit toilet and shower rooms into our garden offices for business. We can provide a quote to fit a premium standard suite or choose something more tailored to your taste.
Got questions about plumbing and sewage? Our team of experts will be able to advise on what can be achieved in your specific garden during our site visit.
It’s also worth noting that we can fit a quality, modern composting toilets, which do away with the need for sewage connection. Therefore, limiting the amount of necessary digging.
Speak to our team about your garden room’s WC and bathroom needs.
Do I need planning permission for my home garden business?
In general, as our buildings are classed as outbuildings, your garden room would normally fall under permitted development and therefore shouldn’t require planning permission in most cases. This typically depends on the size and height of your garden room, as well as the specifics of your property, so it’s always important to check first.
However, if you want to use a garden room for a business, the rules may change for a business premises. So, it’s important that you contact your local planning authority to decide whether planning permission is needed.
They will give you detailed guidance based on the location, size and intended use of your garden room to ensure it’s built within legal limits and respects the needs of your local environment and those of your neighbours.
Our team are not planning consultants and it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to check the permissions on the property, but we do offer a planning application service and are always happy to guide you through the process.
What kind of heating is included in my home garden office?
You’ll be able to work in comfort all year thanks to a modern Wi-Fi enabled slimline panel heater. Optional upgrades included remote controlled underfloor heating to free up valuable wall space, or a combi air conditioning and heating system.
Will my home office have WI-FI?
Yes! We know how important good connectivity is, especially to a business. Every garden room for business comes fitted with everything you need to get to work from day one. With router and Wi-Fi included, as well as power and data run from your home, you’ll also find three double plug sockets in brushed steel and integrated spotlights, inside and out.
If you need any additional electrics fitted, like integrated TV or projector screens, we can help with that too.
How many plug sockets are included in my garden home office?
We include three brushed steel double plug sockets in every garden room design. However, more can be added if needed.
It can be helpful to consider all the equipment you intend to use in your garden room to help run your business. Once we have that list, we’ll be able to help map out your space and plan exactly how many sockets there should be, and where.
Speak to our team if any additional electrics are required in your home-based business garden room.
How long will it take to build my home office?
With a garden room for business, you can usually expect for our team to complete the build within two weeks. Our carpenters hand craft on site so while quality takes time, we can assure you it’s worth the short wait.
Within those two weeks you can expect your building to be totally complete and ready to enjoy. That’s high-grade insulation, bespoke glazing, all essential electrics, Wi-Fi, heating and painted, plastered walls.
Of course, if you opt for anything more complex, like site clearance or bathrooms that require water and waste connections, then we may take up to an extra week to complete the job.
Can I use my garden room in all seasons?
Absolutely! We wouldn’t have it any other way. Every Eden is fully insulated against the UK’s unpredictable weather. That’s hard polyisocyanurate board included in all floors and walls, plus multifoil in the roof of your garden room. Both are great for retaining heat in winter and helping to keep your building cool in the summer.
Every garden business office room is fitted with a Wi-Fi enabled slimline wall mounted panel heater, but this can be upgraded to underfloor heating or air conditioning if required (recommended if you’ll be using any large server equipment known to give off a lot of heat).
Finally, with our quality, bespoke glazing and French doors, you will be able to enjoy your garden from the comfort of your workspace as it changes throughout the seasons. Upgrade to bifold doors, inset blinds or feature windows to create something unique and beautifully functional.
What foundations do Eden use?
We use a screwpile foundation as standard for all our garden office rooms. Screwpiles are extremely load-baring whilst minimising the disruption to your garden (so no digging or concrete fill, which is a big benefit for your garden eco system).
In some cases, where concrete is preferred or required (due to the ground quality or very heavy equipment being placed inside the room), we can quote to lay a new concrete base, and can potentially work with an existing base, subject to inspection.
